In mysterious circumstances, a 41-year-old woman - an officer of the Taiwan Air Force, was killed. She was sucked into the engine of a trainer aircraft during a routine check of the airplane.
According to information from the Independent publication, the tragedy occurred after landing at the Czinchuan Air Base in Taichung.
The officer, referred to simply as "Ho," was immediately involved with the engine right after her landing. During the check, which began before the engine was turned off, the tragedy occurred.
"Ho" was promptly taken to the nearest hospital, but her death was pronounced at 11:40 AM.
Specific details leading to the tragedy remain unclear and are currently under investigation. Local media reported that "Ho" served in the Taiwanese army for 18 years and was scheduled to be transferred from an office position to a field position in 2024.
The Taiwanese Air Force promised to conduct a thorough investigation and review protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future. The statement noted that they would fully cooperate with the authorities and provide all necessary support to the family of the deceased officer.
The military command confirmed information to the media that the instructor accidentally pressed the throttle pedal in the aircraft, which was the cause of the incident, and stated that the information would not be disseminated publicly.
As a precautionary measure, the central airbase temporarily suspended the flights of training aircraft of the Taiwanese army.
