A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.4 occurred in southern Taiwan on Tuesday morning. This resulted in 27 people receiving non-life-threatening injuries.

The main wave of the earthquake was recorded at 3:17 local time, with its epicenter near Taitung at a depth of 16.7 km. Workers in the local construction industry were evacuated due to the risk of potential aftershocks from the earthquake in Hualien County.

"I felt a strong shaking, the shelves started to collapse and everything on the shelves fell," said a local resident. "It was pretty frightening, I can't remember the last time I experienced something like this long ago."
