Alex Honnold Scales Taipei 101 in Free Solo Ascent

American climber Alex Honnold made history by scaling the Taipei 101 skyscraper in Taiwan, becoming the first person to climb this structure in a free solo style. This is the most extreme form of rock climbing, where no ropes or harnesses are used, and any mistake can be fatal. The climb, which took a little over 90 minutes, was broadcast live globally. Honnold, known from the Oscar-winning documentary 'Free Solo' about his ascent of El Capitan, conquered the 508-meter height without any protection, using only special shoes, a chalk bag, and his iconic red t-shirt. Despite an initial cancellation due to bad weather, the climber began the ascent the next morning in perfect conditions. He noted that his biggest challenge was to stay calm. This victory, nearly a decade after his famous feat in Yosemite, once again makes him a part of history. The event's organizers were prepared for any unforeseen circumstances, including a ten-second delay in the broadcast to immediately cut it in case of a fall. As he climbed, Honnold felt increasingly calm and confident, maintaining constant contact with his support team. 'It's incredible. I've spent a long time thinking about this, imagining it was possible, but actually doing it feels different,' the climber expressed after completing the ascent. He also thanked his team, noting that when he trusts them, it's easier for him to give his best.
