Volunteer destroys artwork at Taiwanese museum

A volunteer at the Keelung Museum of Art in Taiwan accidentally destroyed an invaluable piece of art in a well-meaning attempt to clean it. The artwork, titled "Inverted Grammar 16," consisted of a mirror covered in a thick layer of dust that had accumulated over 40 years, forming an integral part of the piece. However, the volunteer, who was assisting museum staff in maintaining the artworks, saw the dust merely as foreign dirt that needed to be cleaned. After failing to realize the artistic importance of the accumulated layer, the volunteer caused irreversible damage to the artwork before other museum staff intervened. According to the Taiwanese newspaper "Confidentialial," the museum's deputy director, Cheng Ting-ching, stated that an emergency meeting was held following the incident, and they are currently discussing the possibility of compensating the artist.
