Taiwan authorities communicated that China deployed 32 military aircraft around the island and announced "live fire drills" in an area located approximately 40 nautical miles (74 kilometers) to the south of the island, prompting Taiwan to dispatch naval, aerial, and ground forces "for monitoring and an appropriate response." Taiwan's defense ministry stated that the Chinese People's Liberation Army "grossly violated international norms, unilaterally defining the zone of drills as being at a distance of 40 nautical miles from the coast of Kaohsiung-Taiwan."
"Taiwan has deployed forces after China announced it was conducting drills using live fire near the island, which is being monitored autonomously," the defense ministry explained, describing these maneuvers as dangerous.
